Irish rally team PCRS Rallysport will run two cars on this weekend’s Southern Ohio Forest Rally in the USA
Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy founder and patron John Coyne will return to American National Rally Championship action this weekend at the Southern Ohio Rally.
Driving the first of two PCRS Rallysport-prepared Hyundai I20 Rally2, Coyne will give Rally Academy co-driver Eoin Treacy his second taste of American rallying.
They finished fourth overall and second in the RC2 class on the recent Oregan Trail Rally and that is something both Coyne and Treacy will want to build on in Ohio next weekend.
A second is being prepared for father and son Enda and Mail McCormack.
“I’m looking forward to SOFR 2024,” said RC2 points leader Coyne ahead of his fourth ARA National round this year. “It’s always a big challenge with the undulating and technical terrain and the typically high temperature and humidity.”
“I’m also looking forward to having Enda McCormack back out in the other PCRS Hyundai i20 N Rally2. We always have a close race, which adds to the enjoyment. Eoin Treacy, my Motorsport Ireland Rally Academy codriver is looking forward to his second ARA event.”
Joining the national calendar this year for the fifth time, SOFR quickly became a staple event in the championship after forming as a regional rally in 2017 and growing into the three-day, 114-mile, rally it is today.
The 17 stages feature tight, technical gravel roads with steep elevation changes, and even a few tarmac sections just to make things interesting for competitors
The action starts this year as it has since 2021 with the Yoctangee Street Stage Super Special on Thursday night, a 0.96-mile tarmac stage through a public park that ends with a wild jump known for having some of the biggest sends of the whole year.
